Welcome to Activate Butler County!
Activate Butler County is a project of the Community Wellness Committee of the Butler Collaborative for Families.

What is Activate Butler County?
Activate Butler County is a FREE program to get Butler County Residents...Up and Moving!   There are so many ways to accomplish this!

  • Moderate activity includes things like walking, gardening, dancing, or yardwork - anything that makes you breathe as hard as you would during a brisk walk.
  • Vigorous activities include things like jogging, running, or aerobics - anything that makes you breathe as hard as you would while running.

Both types of activity have benefits, and both count!

Let's Get Started...

Set your Goals!
There are 1,440 minutes in every day.   Schedule 30 of them for physical activity!

Regular exercise is a critical part of staying healthy.   People who are active live longer and feel better.   Exercise can help you maintain a healthyweight.   It can delay or prevent diabetes, some cancers and heart problems.

Most adults need at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity at least five days per week.   Examples include walking briskly, mowing the lawn, dancing, swimming for recreation or bicycling.   Stretching and weight training can also strengthen your body and improve your fitness level.

The key is to find the right exercise for you.   If it is fun, you are more likely to stay motivated.   You may want to walk with a friend, join a class or plan a group bike ride.   If you've been inactive for awhile, use a sensible approach and start our slowly.  Click here to find out more.

Use Activate Butler County to help you achieve your goals.
Activate Butler County is the place to log your minutes!   Every week, log onto our site to log your minutes.   Stay involved for 12 months and win prizes along the way!

Every participant sets his or her own goals.   Whether you participate in moderate or vigorous activity, you earn credit for every minute you're active.

Example:   On Sunday, Tom mowed the grass with a push mower, and it took him 45 minutes.   On Monday, he took his daughter on a 30 minute walk.   On Wednesday morning, Tom walked Rails to Trails for 1 hour. On Saturday, the family went swimming at the community swimming pool for 30 minutes.   Every Monday, Tom logs onto www.HealthyButler.com and logs his activity minutes.   Based on our example, Tom logs 165 minutes.

Why Should I Participate?
In addition to all of the health benefits of Physical Activity, everyone who enrolls, stays active, and logs their minutes weekly will be entered in a drawing to receive great incentives.   Prizes will be given quarterly and include sports equipment, gift certificates and other great items that will help you stay active and healthy along the way.   All participants age 12 and over are eligible to win.   To be qualified, you must log your activity minutes every week at www.HealthyButler.com.
