Body Mass Index
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a number calculated from a
person's weight and height. BMI provides a reliable
indicator of body fatness for most people and is used
to screen for weight categories that may lead to health
problems. BMI uses your weight and height as an
indicator of total body fat. It is reliable,
but some limits are:
-
It may overestimate body fat in athletes and
others with muscular build
-
It may underestimate body fat in older persons and
others who have lost muscle mass

Waist Circumference & BMI
After determining your BMI, place a measuring tape
snuggly around your waist at your belly button to
measure your waist circumference. Use that information
to determine your risk of developing obesity related
diseases.
